Conestoga captured third place in the District 1 Class AAAA baseball playoffs with a 3-2 win over host Spring-Ford on Friday.

The Pioneers, who improved to 17-7, will face District 3 champion Cedar Cliff at Northern York High School in the opening round of the PIAA Class AAAA playoffs on Monday.

Austin Guyer pitched six strong innings in relief to give Conestoga the spark it needed.

“Austin pitched magnificently,’ said Conestoga coach John Vogan. "He’s a great kid and works hard. It was really a great performance.’

Guyer only gave up three hits and struck out five in relief of starter Jake Bufo.

Spring-Ford took a 2-1 lead with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Pioneers rebounded with two in the bottom of the sixth.

Brendan Ruffenach walked with the bases loaded to tie it, and Andrew Smith delivered an RBI single to plate the go-ahead run.

Ryne Ogren drove in Conestoga’s run in the third inning.
